Waking this morning to hear the news of people on the streets allegedly protesting against government trying to keep them and fellow citizens alive by lockdown would be understandable in America where the IQ level is not not a premium and demonstrated daily, but it seems that dumb down intellect has spread to Australia.

The habits of a failed nation where ethics, laws, elected officials, culture, religion is governed by the capitalist dollar where you crawl over your anybody or anything to gain money and be regarded as “A Businessman” and that justifies the code of the End always justifies the Means.

That type of culture is infiltrating Australians, and I fully agree with ones right to protest, I am not stupid enough to realise this gullible group is being infiltrated by the Right wing crackpots with sinister agendas.

And Yes I’ve been on the streets, marched and protested in my youth but were wise enough to know when the Nazis or Facists tried to infiltrate our ranks. Todays mature adults in “age”are totally street dumb, politically naive, easily led after all to them if you can’t get a haircut or a latte your deprived of freedom. Self centred, all about me, culture of image is exposed with little thought of the broader picture of how our nation has grown. Unlike America we have cultures of our fellow man, our health system is a classic example, which again the Americans do not have the intellect to consume, or our once welcoming attitudes of migrants, tainted by the present government granted, but that culture still is alive in our majority.

I witnessed first hand kids with polio, in my class and we cared. We got vaccinated, I saw kids and mothers grief with results of German measles and my mother had dypyheria so yes don’t crap me with your “Freedom Shit” lingo because if we did not get vaccinated those protesters would never have evolved. Fact.

It was the “responsible thing to do” yes responsible, a feeling that is normal in our culture now we have a sector that feel does not apply to them. Their special, maybe elite even who knows so just imagine having one in the trenches and could you rely on their support?

You’d be foolish or have grave doubts at least.

We have a Prime Minister who is gutless, a liar, a imposter on our democratic history who sees political advantage in courting the nut jobs, and I’m sure will be supported by the politically naive, the dumb down lot who just take passing interest , a condition the savvy politicians love as they only have to perform around elections. Der, then we have the other so called “Independent” people like Palmer and my local village idiot, the “political harlot” Hanson who will say anything do anything for self survival, who could be President in America with her ethical base, no problems there.

Oh yes how could I forget about the Conspiracy theorists who thrive on the illiterate, the uneducated the one who will seize on anything or anybody, looking fr the big Boogy man if you support us well keep you safe, here buy this hat, and don’t leave your state or you’ll fall off the edge of the earth.

Once a script for Monty Python now are actually living the role of the ridiculous with their silly hats, Spanish Inquisitions, or taking on movie star roles bringing the days of the rebellions, or cow boy characters waving flags and in costumes with scripted lines out of some spaghetti movie set.

I’m not stupid enough not to know all sides of politics don’t use this strategy, but depending on your democracy type their has to be separation of powers to alleviate dictatorships and active intellectual Oppositions who’s ability to kick government hard without use of violence along with the use of the Forth Estate keeps civil society civil.

We are supposed to have a obligation to each other in Civil Society and the ones who see that are so special they divorce themselves from that obligation should be held out to identification, it’s their choice and it’s our choice to choose if they are fit enough to join our social fabric.

Jelly Back Journalism

Well if the Poms can get one thing right its their Media Scrum. They are pretty relentless in questioning of their leaders but sadly I believe it can be said the quality of the politician in England is not of the highest quality.

Good accountability can only be achieved and maintained a strong media who are fearless in questioning and investigative journalism.

Yes that via the way it WAS, not now. Our media now has descended into what can only be described as protection rackets who cover the arse of who gives them the inside running, be it news or business that in the past would be done by the Marfia.

Sadly a “Balanced View” is ridiculed as a lefty socialist when the commercial media is that of the far right that would make Hitler smile.

I object with passion outlets calling themselves News when its Opinion or more than that Entertainment, and it’s sad how people cannot define the difference out of pure ignorance.

ABC News Breakfast V Sunrise, Radio National V a million shock jocks, stark comparison you may say but answer the question: Do I Have the Intelligence or information to define what is the difference ?” OR do I want to?

If you can’t you should just think, because that what the fake news, conspiracy theorists thrive on and you’re their prey.

Democracy at Local Level in Ipswich Hurts.

I have the upmost respect for the article presented by Brian Bennion and John Nugent referring to the new council format and what they regard as flaws in the system.

Change is always hard to accept especially as we age and it’s easy to live in the past but the past of the Ipswich City Council is nothing to be proud of.

We had some good councillors and some not so good but that’s local government but we had a culture that was toxic and that firmly on the record.

The case put was because present councillors were all not on the same page is expected and view issues from different lights should not be seen as a flaw. That is is what a democracy is all about, and different views matter or you have what we had in the past that allegedly know one knew what was going on from the top down.

Ignorance reigned supreme and was bliss to our many of our former councillors. That too is firmly on the record.

The electoral boundaries were judged on population not navigation so equal representation per head was attempted, not exactly but marginally correct.

I expect and encourage vigorous debate and it’s up to the top table to keep it within the corporate governance accountabilities and ensure we all are properly represented with infantile politics put aside.

No one ever said democracy was easy, in fact it is bloody hard and the thing that is most important is accessibility to our representatives, which I might add does not mean taking them out of the kitchen and giving them a comfy chair in the suburbs surrounded by mates, but making the come to you to earn their wages on a phone call or letter.

We are the employers people, never forget it, and we should never be condescending, as remember in the past those who boasted were playing with our money not theirs.

At 70yo with the Power of Invisibility

Well I am blessed to be able to sit and write this little ditty as a few of my mates have not been so lucky and left the stage.

Over my life I have not stayed inside any bubble for any great length of time in my work life therefor my social experiences have been as expansive yet as my son grew up my “street wise” credentials have expanded even further. That’s not a reflection on him its a reflection on our parental interest never failed him and like all kids he had to make his own way and I think we gave him that freedom. He was not in our bubble but knew where home was to clarify the point.

The reason I started on this is I am so thankful that I was introduced to what the younger set were thinking, and being a baby boomer we thought we knew the ropes and I /we discovered their were different ropes. Times change and we the old farts have to adjust.

Yes ADJUST, learn and let go and learn again.

Many of my age played the too old or don’t want to card and expected the world to feel sorry or adjust to them, be it business practices, technology, travel even basic shopping they played the victim card not realising it was their choice in the majority of cases so as time progressed that victim card turned into well get onboard and stop the poor me shit.

Personally I’m a self taught bloke, very fortunate to be involved in the biggest technology shift in the world at the leading edge. Thanks to PMG, Telecom Australia , Telstra i was involved in watching learning and partaking in changing the nations communication systems from open wire to fibre.

That knowledge sits with me today as vivid as it was when it happened as it was just exciting to be part and to grasp the knowledge so you could progress to the next level, be it physically and professionally.

I watched my initial trade Boilermaking progress in equipment, techniques but the 4 pound hammer is still a basic requirement. I left for my good and my family’s future taking a massive wage cut to gain security. The punt worked in so many ways I no regrets.

Then it was the Retail phase where we went into the family business, and lived out of the till. My/our decisions, and that was a necessary step we felt at the time. A great experience I don’t regret but it was a tough teacher.

Throw in cab driving, fruit and vegetable at the markets, car detailing, football coaching semi professional, leaves me I feel with reasonable credentials to in my older phase to look where we are, and where I fit.

It seems the older you get the more invisible you are to the busy or self indulged.

Self indulgement was a blessing we never claimed in my set but it was part of the elite lifestyle we never aspired to join for the fear of loosing real friends. Many tried and never has the breeding, and realised it was a inbred thing as it still is today.

Back to our secret power of invisibility we can talk at gatherings and be ignored, stand in line at the shop and people talk past you, say hello or make eye contact and people turn their head, offer advice and help from actual experience to absolute Fuckwitts and be looked at like a dog turd.

Such is life as older human who should be parked up out of sight out of mind.

No I’m not bitter I’m amazed and question myself strongly if I was that discourteous to my elders.. I question that daily. I often disagreed as I did question, but never ignored out of respect.

We old farts are guilty of our own destiny too as many especially in retirement cannot let go of their past and try to remain in roles of importance after retirement, not to the benefit of the organisation but for self importance and relativity.

All good but comes a time for the good of that organisation you have to stand aside a become a mere mortal.

An autocrats nightmare I know but that attitude does nothing for the elder reputation overall, and dare I suggest successive planning.

What a stupid idea is that… “look at me, I’m a senior citizen and there no-one to take my place”, without thinking its you job in reality to find and train people to do your job for the good of the organisation you represent.

Ego won’t allow that too many.

Well I’ve calmed down a bit, taken by blood pressure and I’m good to go. So what about the present me?

After being in positions of captain and presidents of football and golf clubs and being active in a playing only capacity for about 5 years I had to stop because of oxygen, or lack of.

Asbestos is not you friend so of late I’ve been asked if I want to help with the golf club Pennants side and I will do the job as I always have in a business like perspective. Results are a priority then comes the social aspect as it costs the club business to compete even though the players are amateur.

All of my “volunteer” roles have been based on the same princiopal which some find it hard to comprehend. That’s my business brain at work and it has cost me friends as they can’t grasp business outside the kitchen table wanna be professionals who have never moved outside their bubble, but know the power point presentations by heart.

Sister too has moved back into the workforce and I admire anyone regardless of age steps into the unknown and challenges themselves outside their bubble.

Pop that bubble and you will see life outside, but be prepared for some push back from those who have taken you for granted, or scared to move outside theirs, directly and indirectly, and be prepared to be challenged. You have no status other than your clipboard even though you may have a title bestowed.

It’s a test of your Basic skills not the ones you may have acquired in your former career.

In closing for now I was pleasantly surprised when a young person asked me if they could contact me for advice in a new role , so my superpower of invisibility is penatratable to some who actually want to converse to another human in a most unfashionable way face to face. Let’s see if that eventuates..

We’re Holding our Breath.

Well it happened ,cost millions, but it was a point that needed to be made.

The Orange Man Cowardly run away to the relief of any more illiterate waffling of a spoilt child loosing his favourite daily toy for that day given to him by his mummy to keep him quiet.

The new king has taken the castle and cleaning out the cupboard but probably nothing will change much other than the noise level.

Priority one is saving the population from basic extinction from the covid which didn’t seem to be important until now.

Politics was all important than any silly pandemic tearing the world apart and his supporters who followed him, followed his lies and innuendo blindly while all the time he was manipulating them into thinking they were helping the country rid of the evil he himself lives.

A rather psychopath skill used by Hitler and other despots that America will take years to wake up. That’s a challenge for the new king and probably the next.

The media both sides cannot go unchallenged. With real journalism being treated as toxic because it doesn’t fit the government narrative and agree it, is branded as enemy of the state. Toxic bias from both sides spewing the opinion shows pretending to be real journalism with hosts some with do not pass the IQ level of a head lice.

And sadder, people believe them because they too are fed by a monopolies with self interest first. Red ,Blue , no difference within America and that’s how things got out of hand. People lost the ability to think for themselves and that’s exactly what the media moguls want. Group think, setting up their own gestapo groups driving around with flags on Utes similar to the ISIS terrorists armed to the hilt.

Patriotic image they think, downright facist activity viewed by the world, but that word facist is beyond the understanding of the uneducated participants. The average American links communism with socialism or socialistic initiatives like health care, and other things helping the less fortunate. Again uneducated and ill informed based on scare dividing cultures that know nothing about anything outside their state sometimes neighbourhood. Yep keep feeding them bullshit and show them a flag and they will hand their kids over to the warlords and get a flag back if your lucky and if they come back broken its not your countries concern its you local government to look after them.

Accepting Fact over Fantasy is America’s Future

Saying “I told you so “ would be self fulfilling but then id be just like Trump wouldn’t I ?

The storming of any house of democracy I thought was a result of the people wanting the removal of a dictator, fascist, or tyrant of the people but yesterday it was the President turning his people on itself for self preservation.

Logic in my terms is not new as I’ve seen unionists turn on its own government to “Show them a Lesson” and as it happens most of those unionists ironically were sacked by the incoming government.

I honestly believe all Americans are not dumb, think for themselves, intelligent people but the education system has failed so many in common citizenship and political awareness leaving it to media and in bred culture to play teacher, the it does not take much for a polished performer with a good spin to gather up the lost souls so they can fill their own wallets firstly and then become loyal customers of whatever that politician is selling.

If America is to recover Biden is not the answer, nor is any one over 60 in either party. Well it was a shit of a year so I was not going out not calling it as I see it …

The Sweep Story.

On the last day of October 2020 was also the last day of a good friend and college, taken by mesothelioma.

It was not a plesent experience for the relatives and people who knew the journey but in the end it was a relief to those knowing the pain and discomfort of the patent.

A story we probably we have all heard before but is close to me and my wife.

Mick (Sweep) and I both are boilermakers, both worked the Evens Deakin shipyard, and both apprentices to that organisation and did the same work. I won’t go into the exposure to asbestos but it was extreme and we both did it without any knowledge of the consequences.

Mick got mesothelioma, I got asbestosis.

Why we were effected differently is in the hands of the medicos for explanation but it certainly makes you think how precious a day is.

But in retrospect we had a great apprenticeship. The best we felt, working and being taught by some true tradesman. No shortcuts, no inaccuracies, it was a culture where you were judged on your product you produced, be it a bracket, a stringer, or a shell plate. Each and every welding run you put down had to be as close to perfect as you can and that standard was adopted by about 98% of the lads and those who failed the mark were really did not last.

The benchmark was set by the Master.

Our Master was Slam Sullivan. No one knew his real first name. A mountain of a man with hands as big as frying pans that you were never silly enough to smart mouth.

That 2% I spoke about was weeded out and addressed often by a smack in the ear or if required a back hander to convince you to consider your attitude to the job.

Oh yes I can hear the cries of violence to the youth but it was mans trade then and you grew up or did not survive. No mummy’s boys, no crying to the big boss as you would be regarded as a wimp

Slam worked on the Story Bridge a time where accuracy was demanded and his experiences and standards were passed on and to his credit turend out tradesmen that were welcomed once knowing your shipyard training in other factories in any other facets of the boiler-making trade.

Mick stuck with the trade his whole life, I divested after about 10 years and went to PMG, Telecom, and Telstra, but did not escape the asbestos exposure as the pits and conduits.

Again though, part of our training was life experiences few experienced.

The years was a melting pot of cultures. Walking distance from Yungabah hostel the landing point of New Australians arriving and having a job almost immediately if you had experience in any part of the shipbuilding industry.

Every day was a learning experience, be it trade or life working alongside of people who were too learning about our culture and us theirs.

Yes the lingo was in todays terms racist and unacceptable but it was common language then yet those of us who really wanted to know how the rest of the world worked it was an open book, in a time in the late 60”s where everything was being challenged from culture, working conditions, life styles, music ,everything that represented authorities including governments.

Some great discussions, ideas and arguments and at time fights but looking back a great base for me that you could never experience in a class room or office job and we had it on tap.

This could be a sad story but I won’t allow it.

Although we both got some shit disease unknowingly we did have some experiences in our youth that would never pass the occupation health and safety standards today and both of us would probably be in jail if we did to each other what was did then.

Setting little traps with welders, tools ,electricity, acetylene and whatever we could invent to get a laugh or get square was all part of learning a trade and character building, and that experiences carry us through life and give us sometimes a different view of life few can accept at times.

To be honest it took years for Mick and me to realise we both worked at the yard as there was about 200 of us covering many trades so we played golf against each other misbehaved accordingly and as age does we did not recognise each other in that light until one afternoon the penny dropped when is saw Mick walk into the clubhouse dressed in his work gear and I said boilermaker, then it all fell into pace, the toolbox was opened and it we started swinging the 4 pound hammer of our youth, driving in the wedges and dogs of the past

He remains in my mind a true tradesman full stop. He stayed and practiced the game to the end and I hope he passed on his standards to his subordinates in trade but I’m pretty sure he passed them on family in another forms and they will live with them.

His legacy remains in many ways.

Slam No Trumps.

Queenslanders DNA runs Deep.

Firstly there will be a language and concept alert so in true Queenslanders way you’ve been told so that’s it.

I was bought up in the 50 ‘S and from the day I started school we were always lead to believer the southern states of Australia were well ahead of us people who lived in the north.

Better schools and education, better sports people, better beaches and better cities were all shoved down our throats and they were the benchmarks we had to hit.

As we grew so did our state and after a while we realised that NSW and Victoria were like two male Peacocks prancing around in full garb while Queensland, South Australia, and NT did not participate in this petty game of infantile one upmanship but the populations involved took this culture seriously to our amusement but we understood that if our sportspeople wanted to get a Australian spot in any sport they had to break the Southern culture which meant migrating.

Yes sport is a big thing in Queensland, it’s a underlying force, and we were belted often by our own talent in many sports and told how bad we were by the southern media.

We never forgot that, year after year we were disciplined enough to cop it and worked away slowly to balance the books.

That determination over time became our DNA, something the southerners will never understand to this day and only see it as a chip on the shoulder.

That QDNA is passed down, similar to the Scottish, the Irish, the Welsh hold their individually nationally we hold state wide and it becomes a culture of looking after each other, some could call it defensive or victim mentality.

Whatever it is the southerners don’t get it, and it translates across their actions in so many ways.

The Southern Peacock Mentality (SPM) emerges in so many ways when it comes to southern culture and no better barometer is the their sporting hero’s air of arrogance when it comes to discipline.

If you look at the nations that have contained the virus they are the ones with inbred national pride for each other similar to QDNA discipline and the ones that have failed the test are the SPM’s . The self centered populations who fail to understand we all have work to beat the demons yet they are the ones along with their political stooges want us, those who stand strong, to be weak like them.

Our borders are strong, you will comply or fuck off back down south and join peacocks but I truly feel sorry for those who have the discipline to comply in the southern states and they watch the parasites destroy their safety, it’s hard to understand their intellect until you realise the have none other then self interest.

And yes over time Queensland will have clusters and more deaths, and at 70 I’ll probably be a target but I’m proud to be QDNA and me and my real Queenslanders will not be bullied any more by the southern parasites and peacocks ever again.

Unfortunate History We Have to Watch.

It’s like watching a train crash knowing the people on it are going to die.

Such is America today.

We are seeing two old men possible geriatric who should be on nursing homes fighting each other’s ideology’s for a chance to pick over a dying carcass that cannot be revived until it reaches flat bottom.

Only when it reaches bottom will the entire nation realise “Shit we may all have to work at this together to get out of this “ a philosophy usually used after a war, a national tragedy, that requires nation building.

I know I’m dreaming, it ant going to happen. This America version we have now is a pack of self centred wanna be individual capitalists who would crawl over their grandparents dead bodies to make a buck or be successful. Empathy or ethics is not a requirement to achieve that goal but the lack of them justifies the goal at all costs.

It’s the American dream , wealth and fortune will always prevail over truth and justice, and that’s not racists it’s applies to all citizens and accepted as part of life….Until some section of the society burrs up and then it will be regarded as enemy of the state, regardless of which Marfia is in government at the time.

I used to despair watching Fox ,CNN, and others until I realised to accept these divisions only adds to the problem and does nothing for the nation other than increases the ratings along with the hate factor.

The oldest trick in the book is splitting the nation, used by despots like Hitler, Mussolini, Starlin in propaganda blitzes to convert a nation to dictatorships. That’s fact and it’s happening as we speak in America now.

They say democracy is a great vehicle to gain power because after your in power it’s easy to get off and then follow self interest of survival and ideology.

If you can’t see that happening in America right now your brain dead, but I suppose with a population of 5% still believing the earth is flat, the entire population of Australia count in Australia illiterate or to the equivalent of not passing primary school you can’t expect lateral thinking at any level let alone critical thinking.

Even if Biden is elected the divide will not be addressed unless it becomes a total land slide and even if that happens their constitutional arrangements can manipulate the people’s will via bias courts or lawmakers, making democracy a joke by giving way to political puppets of corrupt capitalists.

It would be totally ignorant and self indulgent if I did not say Australia is not going down the same track about 3 years behind but suffering the same symptoms under the Morrison government. Every time Trump farts Morrison takes deep breaths and spills the bile here.

Our phoney PM is nothing more than a used car salesmen, full of slogans and motherhood statements without substance.

And our Opposition, not clear on how they know how cut the mustard trying to walk the middle ground or find the middle ground, that is if the middle ground is where the party wants to position itself for some sort of traction.

In both countries Murdock Press is the toxic cancer to any form of democracy, and until that cancer is defeated true democracy will never prevail. Until we have journalism that hold every politician to account regardless of ideology we will never be more than pawns of the loudest voice, which makes it easy for the ignorant and ill informed, conspiracies and all. Those splits suits the empowered and takes the heat off the incompetence in responsible government.

Sad but quite foreseeable unfortunately, as we sit back and watch those trains get closer in America and it’s a test if the points are changed on Australia’s tracks.
