Dr. Google, a Dangerous Consultant.

How would it go if when you took your car to the mechanics with a problem then proceeded to tell him how to do the job stand by while he did it, what parts to use how long to would take and then just leave the pricing to him? You’d probably complain about the price too and ask for a concession on using your knowledge even though you have never trained, in fact lifted a spanner.

So imagine how Doctors must feel when they get a patient who thinks they know it all thanks to Dr. Google.

Yes diplomacy skills go into overdrive for the professionals when experiencing the online super graduates rants on their self diagnosed problems and woe is them if they dare to challenge the preconceived outcome or expectation of the patient.

Dangerous ground I feel as then we have to ask is the GP or Specialist actually using his experience and training or are they just conceding and sending them on their way feeling good about their own expertise without any confrontation.

Knowledge is power and alternately Dangerous in the wrong hands.

Dr. Google is a dangerous consultant in my book. Most Doctors have a set process of elimination follow by ongoing tests, checks and counter checks leading up to a educated guess, yes guess as they too are only human. Then it comes down to faith in that primary diagnosis and proceeding.

That tradesman mechanic is likely to just tell you to go somewhere else to fix those brakes, or fix them yourself and good luck but the doctor is not quite that abrupt but the result would still be the same come crunch time.

The Tai Chi start… Was not without drama.

Well the wife decided she would take up Tai Chi and went to the local community hall to see the drill.
I’ve been thinking the same since my hip Replacment but haven’t made the move.. Well when she came home yesterday and told me what she observed I looked on the App site and come up with a pretty popular beginners tool and proceeded to introduce myself to the pastime, and I might say was impressed by the way i felt just after the warm up sets…
All the time I was doing the exercises I was under observation from “she who must be obeyed” and when I asked her if she wanted to use the App I was told it’s not the right one and …………..blah blah
Fine was my reply but how can you become a authority with as little as 15 minutes observation and no participation I ask???
Ok wrong question! “I’ll wait till next week to start” was the response.
Fine, but what can you do wrong if you start today with this and when you go to the hall next week see if it is any different?
Male logic, but not accepted.
Fine again. “I know Nothing”
Well me and the dog will progress, ” she likes the music on the iPad app” every day.

All shall be reviled in the fullness of time….

Animal Therapy Wins

Well its been a while, 7 weeks in fact since Francis the new hip was installed, lost my best mate Ebony to a Tuma but the world goes on.
In my book after I lost my girl I had to focus on recovery and to create milestones slowly to get your life back to normal.
Having family to assist is half the battle and relieving them of their commitment to my cause was pleasing knowing my reliability on them way diminishing daily..
During that period Ebony’s loss was always a reminder and we soon had to make a decision on weather or when we go out and start searching for a puppy and letting go.
Being in the older age bracket as well, considerations had to be made about what sort to companion we wanted taking into consideration our home, location and security.
The latter was never a problem with Ebony. Great Dane Ridgeback was enough to deter many a salesman let alone a person who wanted to take her on and the 410.
Mind you nothing in our house is worth much to any robber as sentiment is rarely transferable, but then again the grubs these days just don’t care.
So we came to a decision, a full Rhodesian Ridgeback and what a decision that was.
Forgot about all the little things that come with a young dog. The slippers, puddles, whoopseys, shoes, sleep, just like a new grandkid. And it is as we not have one.
Anyway while all this is going on my body was getting stronger but chasing her from out of the paddock was out of the question so when we decided to ignore a instruction we came to a altercation we had to have when you have 2 strong minded individuals, there would be only one winner.
I think it was me… Not sure but I won the round anyway on points.
Any way it now a ongoing learning curve for all of us testing boundaries to achieve good results a
is my therapy of getting back to my normal life so its working for both of us.
Yes, never been without a dog for any length of time and what I have read people with pets live longer than those without, and I can see why.
They keep their mouths shut when you tell them secrets, humans rarely can..

All about Attitude…

Yesterday I decided to venture into my Town for the first time since Francis the new Hip has been installed.
Getting the basics, Fuel, meat, groceries all that stuff but foe me was getting out of the bloody house into the Landy and basically scenery change.
Well I sat their in the local supermarket crutches at my side and saying g,day to many, having a yarn to those who needed one, general human interaction.
On the other side though their was some who distinctly went out of their way not to be seen..
Now this could be put down to many factors. I do have a tendency to call it as it is , and I have left the local golf club and gone to the opposition. No browny points their, so its a laugh when you see old people acting like kids in a schoolyard.
Well I suppose that’s small town mentality, and I knew straight away why I did not frequent the town before, which is sad, but as people get older many seem to get bitter instead of the reverse as they need more interaction instead of isolating it.
Anyway that’s their problem, I’m outta here and a life to live…

Getting to Know My Body

Well I have never had major surgery and I don’t know about you I was very apprehensive about my upcoming ordeal.
Now its done and dusted, I did not realise how well the body goes to work when its put under the pump.
I thought I was in charge of my body up until then, I knew the signs and triggers, but no way it told me what I was going to do and when and no way could I override the instructions to if I tried I would pay a price of pain.
The staff all know, the medics know, you jus got to accept you are not bulletproof.
One can only commend the Nurses, Doctors, Surgeons, phisio’s, cooks and cleaners all putting it together to make a orthopaedic ward work.
You need to be special people to work in those wards and get the best out of their patients recovery.
Anyway no time for sitting here stiffening up, it’s time for exercise and more exercise to get through the barrier or all will be lost….
